2. Joe Mantiply would be the groundball out specialist Cards need

With a 60.4% ground ball rate, Mantiply figures as a typical get for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 39 games, Mantiply is 1-2 with two saves and 10 holds over 36.2 innings for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has a 2.21 ERA with 38 strikeouts.

A lefty arm, Mantiply uses a four-seam fastball, a sinker, a curveball, and a changeup. Mantiply’s sinker averages 90.3 mph with 29.2-inches of vertical drop and an active spin of 92 percent. The curveball averages 81.1 mph with 43.5-inches of vertical drop.

Mantiply has only been in the league for a little over a season. He’s on a one-year contract worth $717K. He will be arbitration eligible in 2024 and a free agent in 2027.

Mantiply would be an excellent get for the Cardinals. The offspeed pitch specialist with an impressive ground ball rate would feel confident throwing in front of a defense that includes Gold Glove infielders Nolan Arenado, Tommy Edman, and Paul Goldschmidt. Rookie Nolan Gorman has been impressive at second base. Tyler O’Neill is the Cardinals Gold Glove outfielder. While Harrison Bader has been on the injured list, the Cardinals have gotten impressive defense from Dylan Carlson.
