Chicago Cubs, C, Willson Contreras

The Chicago Cubs traded off most of their great players last trade deadline in Kris Bryant, Craig Kimbrel, Javier Báez, Joc Pederson, Anthony Rizzo, and others.

He is the starting catcher for the National League this year and he is likely to be traded in the next two weeks. Contreras, 30, is hitting .253/.366/.455 with an OPS+ of 130 in 78 games. He also has 13 home runs, 35 RBI, and 17 doubles.

The Cubs are not in contention this year by any stretch and Contreras is a free agent at season’s end. Considering that he is, arguably, the best catcher in the sport right now, the Cubs could get a huge haul for him, despite him only being a rental.

Washington Nationals, OF, Juan Soto

Juan Soto has been in the news a lot recently since he turned down a contract extension with the Washington Nationals that was reportedly worth 15 years and $440 million.

The 23-year-old is arguably the best hitter in the entire game so all 29 teams would love to have him. The problem will be whether or not they have or are willing to part with a bevy of top prospects or young, controllable MLB players.

Soto is hitting .250/.405/.497 with 20 home runs, 43 RBI, an MLB-leading 79 walks, and 17 doubles. He also was an All-Star last year, won a Silver Slugger Award, and came in second in NL MVP voting.

Soto isn’t a free agent until after the 2022 season but if the Nationals decide to trade him, it very well could be at this trade deadline and for one of the biggest returns in MLB history.

Juan Soto knows his relationship with Nationals is beyond repair. dark. Next
