2. Patrick Cantlay may forfeit his chance at playing in the Ryder Cup by joining LIV Golf

Patrick Cantlay ranks 10th among American golfers in the Ryder Cup rankings, but he may not be able to put on the red, white, and blue next year if he decides to join LIV Golf. Would the reigning FedEx Cup champion make the leap? There are certainly rumors swirling.

Cantlay, much like the aforementioned Open champion Cameron Smith, didn’t exactly deny that he’d had contact with LIV Golf earlier this year. He also alluded to the need for the PGA Tour to offer guaranteed money to the players.

Cantlay finished eighth at last week’s Open Championship and is slotted at No. 4 according to the World Golf Rankngs. Cantley has yet to win a major championship but has been among the Top 15 finishers in the last two.

Losing Patrick Cantlay would be a huge blow for Team USA in next year’s Ryder Cup. While he’s not among the automatic qualifiers at this point, you’d have to assume that Cantlay would undoubtedly be a captain’s pick if he fell outside a guaranteed spot before the event is held next year.
