Packers: 3 2022 roster holes that could cost Aaron Rodgers a Super Bowl
1. Obviously, the Packers have a massive hole at WR that could hurt Aaron Rodgers
This is the most obvious inclusion on any list of Packers roster holes but it deserves to be repeated.
Most glaringly, Green Bay parted ways with Davante Adams, who is arguably the best wide receiver in the league. That’s a hole that would be difficult to fill in any capacity. But the blow is made even worse with the team also seeing Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown leaving in free agency, thus worsening the depth behind WR1 as well.
As things currently stand, the Pack is set to go into the season with their wide receiver depth chart consisting of Sammy Watkins, rookie Christian Watson, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers and Allen Lazard. If that group looks pretty lackluster or unproven, that’s because it is. There isn’t a reliable No. 1 receiver among that group and some players who have never produced at the level that you would have to believe they’ll be asked to this season.
Now, there is still time to make some moves. Whether they try and hit the trade market or look at veteran free agents such as Julio Jones prior to the start of the 2022 season, there are options to potentially upgrade this group.
Having said that, the current state of the wide receiver corps is troublesome. As good as Aaron Rodgers is, it’s hard to imagine him replicating his MVP-level performance of the past few seasons with this group catching his passes, which would surely put a damper on the Packers’ Super Bowl aspirations.
