Juan Soto rumors: White Sox could trade Colson Montgomery

Montgomery frequently draws comparisons to Corey Seager, and it’s easy to see why. He’s a left-handed hitting shortstop with incredible raw power. He’s exactly the kind of middle infielder a franchise wants to build around, should he pan out.

That’s why the Nationals will insist on Chicago adding him to any Soto trade package. In fact, he would be the centerpiece.

The White Sox are confident Montgomery will stay at shortstop, despite being 6-4. Most scouts disagreed when he was drafted, but at 20 years old, Montgomery has shown no signs of slowing down defensively, and definitely not at the plate.

When Jeff Passan says that a trade for Soto would be Herschel Walker-esque, this is what he means. Multiple top prospects, an MLB All-Star, and perhaps more. By no means would Montgomery, Cespedes and Vaughn be the only players going back to D.C. in this trade.

However, taking on Patrick Corbin’s contract could help matters. With new ownership trying to rid itself of past mistakes, Chicago could play that hand to their advantage.
