 1. Pedro Severino

If the Cardinals are thinking of very short-term solutions in Molina’s absence, an option may come in the form of a member of their NL Central rival Milwaukee Brewers.

According to Fansided’s MLB Insider Robert Murray, Pedro Severino may be a trade chip the Cardinals can check in on.

“One other name who makes sense as a trade candidate: Brewers catcher Pedro Severino,” Murray said. “Milwaukee has two other catchers in Omar Narvaez and Victor Caratini while Severino is no longer eligible to play in the postseason after he was suspended for testing positive for PEDs.”

In five games since returning from his PED suspension, Severino is hitting .214/.313/.357 with an OPS of .670. He does have two doubles, two walks, and an RBI.

He’s no long-term solution to Molina’s absence by any means, but he could provide a boost until Molina returns if they feel his injured list stay will be extended. Severino is on a prorated deal for the season worth $981.3K. He will be eligible for arbitration in 2023 and a free agent in 2024.
