1. St. Louis Cardinals

One team that has been linked to Montas this year are the St. Louis Cardinals.

They made the decision to move on from manager Mike Shildt despite them making a dramatic run to a Wild Card berth last season, highlighted by a 17-game winning streak. Moving in his spot was Oliver Marmol, and so far, the team is performing well.

They are tied with the Phillies for the final NL Wild Card spot, and just half a game behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the Central division. While that is all well and good, the team could stand to make some additions at the deadline.

St. Louis has been linked recently to Montas, with ESPN’s Buster Olney reporting earlier this month that rival executives viewed them as the favorites to land Montas.

The Cardinals could use a starting pitcher to add to their rotation, as ace Jack Flaherty is on the 60-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. Bringing in Montas could be the move to help the Cardinals make it to the postseason for the fourth consecutive season.
