Miami Marlins 1B Garrett Cooper

Like Happ, Miami Marlins first baseman Garrett Cooper was an All-Star for the first time in his career, and while the White Sox don’t need a “first baseman” per se, they could use more offense and could move some players around defensively.

Cooper, 31, is hitting .283/.349/.434 with seven home runs, 40 RBI, 21 doubles, and an OPS+ of 122. He has exclusively played first base this year, but he has played both left and right field in the past.

If the White Sox acquired him, he and José Abreu would likely split time between first base and DH. Then, Andrew Vaughn (who has been the team’s primary DH) would either play left or right field. Vaughn isn’t a great defender but the White Sox have to get more offense on their team and adding Cooper would do that.

Like Happ, he is also under contract through next season.
