Yankees rumors: Top prospects pulled from game, big trade could be looming

Trade rumors were running rampant when two of the New York Yankees’ top prospects were pulled from their game on July 24.

The Aug. 2 trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and attention is being focused on the postseason contenders. The New York Yankees fit the bill, as they had the best record in the American League entering the All-Star break. They were linked to players such as Cincinnati Reds pitcher Luis Castillo, Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto, and most recently, they were reportedly “serious contenders” for Kansas City Royals outfielder Andrew Benintendi.

Yankees fans jaws had to drop upon hearing that top prospects Jasson Dominguez and Trey Sweeney were both pulled from New York’s High-A affiliate team’s , the Hudson Valley Renegades, game on July 24.

To make matters even more interesting, Sweeney was pulled from the game just when he was close to hitting for the cycle.

Dominguez has been hyped for many years as one of the top slugging prospects in baseball, where he actually earned comparisons to Mike Trout, Bo Jackson, and Mickey Mantle. He currently ranks as New York’s third-overall prospect in their farm system. He was called up to High-A this season, and hit a home run in the MLB Futures Game at Dodger Stadium.

Sweeney, on the other hand, is the sixth-ranked prospect in the pipeline. He is a shortstop, but he Anthony Volpe, who is actually rated the fifth-overall prospect in all of baseball, and Oswald Peraza, the No. 2 prospect in New York’s pipeline.

Does this mean that the Yankees are actually trading both prospects? No.
