Braves: David Peralta to replace Adam Duvall

David Peralta is a player that seems to be brought up as a trade target for the Braves every year. This year is no exception. He fits the mold of what the Atlanta Braves could use. An above average left handed bat that can man left field.

Peralta currently has a 116 OPS+ with a 1.0 WAR on the season in 84 games. Peralta is not a defensive wizard by any means, but he is capable of getting the job done with a -0.1 dWAR and 1 DRS.

With Eddie Rosario also being a lefty bat, this would not be a scenario where the Atlanta Braves would platoon Rosario and Peralta.

However, since Peralta is only under contract for the remainder of the year, and Rosario still having a year left after this one, it could be worth taking the player who has been performing this year, rather than waiting for Rosario’s bat to finally pick up.

Peralta will be relatively cheap having only the remainder of the year left as far as trade packages go, and his pro-rated 7.5 million for the rest of the year could be palatable for the Braves financially.

A lot of the Braves’ left field issues could be solved if their current options would play to their ceilings, but the fact of the matter is, they are not, and the Braves are in a tight division race where every game matters.
