Boston Red Sox rumors

Red Sox rumors: Nathan Eovaldi is one of two pitcher the Cardinals can bid on

Nathan Eovaldi might not have the dazzling numbers the St. Louis Cardinals are looking for to add to their rotation. Beggars can’t be choosers. Right now, they’re in the position to start begging for any starting pitching help they can get.

Prior to his recent shelling against the Toronto Blue Jays when he started the 28-5 loss for the Red Sox, Eovaldi was 4-2 with a 3.34 ERA. One bad outing shouldn’t completely negate any of the good this soon-to-be-free agent has worked up this year.

With some superb postseason experience in his background as a starter and reliever, he’s someone any contender might prefer to have in their rotation over a kid on an innings limit. His trade value probably isn’t so great at the moment but he’s also not a half-bad rental option for this unwilling or unable to pay the price on Luis Castillo, Frankie Montas, or anyone else that becomes available.

The Cardinals could be exactly where the Red Sox are right now if not for playing in a far worse division. They’ve experienced a ton of injuries but gotten solid performances from a couple of their stars.

At last year’s trade deadline, St. Louis picked up former Red Sox postseason hero Jon Lester. Will history repeat itself with Eovaldi as the next contestant? If the Cardinals can get another pitcher, the pair might be able to complete a pretty good rotation.

What about the rest of the Red Sox?

This might not be all the Red Sox do move. However, so many of their guys are on the IL right now or simply un-appealing. A team could view a few of the players as the 26th man on the roster or someone to shove into the back of their bullpen. For the most part, these are the best and most logical chips Boston can offer.
