The St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals are trying to get outfielder Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals but they need rotation help too. Miles Mikolas and Adam Wainwright have been their only starters that have been good and healthy.

Dakota Hudson just came off the IL but he has been below league average. Steven Matz was one of their big offseason signings but he has been ineffective this season when he has pitched but he’s on the injured list too. Their ace, Jack Flaherty, has combined to pitch eight innings of work in the majors this year and he’s on the 60-day IL.

In July, their starters had an ERA of 4.40, which was 23rd in baseball.

The Cardinals cannot do like last season where they nickeled and dimed at the deadline by trading for Jon Lester, Wade LeBlanc, and J.A. Happ. The Cards have to worry about getting in the playoffs and, this year, if they don’t have one of the top two records in the NL, they will have to play in the Wild Card Series. They lost the Wild Card Game last year but with a three-game series, they have to have more than two starting pitchers that they can rely on.
