How will the middle of the rotation look?

4. Jordan Montgomery

The Cardinals dealt Gold Glove-winning center fielder Harrison Bader to the New York Yankees for Montgomery. Bader has been on the injured list for several weeks with lingering plantar fasciitis issues. It’s unclear when he will return from the injured list for the Yankees.

Montgomery, however, projects as a fourth starter in the Cardinals rotation. Montgomery has struggled to get run support in his starts with the Yankees. In 21 starts for the Yankees, he’s 3-3 in 114.2 innings. He has 97 strikeouts and has induced 46.4-percent ground ball outs.

An innings-eating strike thrower who can induce ground ball outs? That’s just what the Cardinals wanted in a starter. It will be fun to see how Montgomery performs with his new team.

3. Jose Quintana

The Cardinals acquired Quintana and reliever Chris Stratton in a deal Monday evening for Johan Oviedo and Malcom Nunez. While Stratton made a spectacular debut Tuesday evening for the Cardinals pitching a solid ninth inning. He gave up one hit while striking out one batter while inducing two swings and misses, and looking effective doing so.

Quintana is slated for third in the rotation and is expected to make his Cardinals debut on Thursday against the Cubs.

in 20 starts and 103 innings thrown, Quintana was 3-5 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With 89 strikeouts, Quintana has a ground ball rate of 45-percent with an ERA of 3.50. Another desirable pick-up for the Cardinals, it will be fun to see him take the mound down the stretch.
