2) Red Sox roster can afford to lose Kaleb Ort

Kaleb Ort has a lot in common with Sanchez. Also playing in his age 30 season, he’s underperforming and only on the roster because someone has to be there. Ort isn’t a prospect like Brayan Bello who the Red Sox should consider keeping around if only to get him a little more major league experience. Don’t worry about ruining his confidence. He has already struggled. Get those growing pains out of the way.

Ort is pitching like a mop-up man and not much more. In a bullpen full of guys with minor league options, he’d be the one to demote the moment they have someone else available. The Red Sox don’t actually have to get rid of him entirely because of the remaining options to the minors.

Boston has had a weird month. They sold a little lighter than expected at the trade deadline. They even added Eric Hosmer to the roster in the ultimate stunner of trade deadline moves.

The rest of the 2022 season is all about preparing for next year. Ort doesn’t have the pedigree to be a big part of their future. Boston will do themselves a much better favor seeing what they have in one of their younger arms than getting more innings from this one.
