1. Pay Dansby Swanson whatever it takes so he never plays for another franchise

Do the Braves want history to repeat itself of not? It will be costly alright, but they have the cash to pay whatever it takes to keep Dansby Swanson in a Braves uniform. He may be repped by the same agent that saw Freddie Freeman cry crocodile tears the entire time on his way to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but there is one massive difference when it comes to Swanson: He is from here.

Truist Park is miles away from where Swanson grew up in Marietta proper. Although the former Vanderbilt star may not be on a hall-of-fame trajectory like his former best friend on the team is, he is Atlanta and he is the Braves. Every kid who ever played youth baseball in Greater Atlanta grew up wanting to play shortstop for the Braves. Swanson is living out all our wildest fantasy.

He may have picked a terrific time to have a career year, but Swanson has emerged as the unquestioned leader on this team. In time, Riley may become that next to him at third base, but for now, the 28-year-old from just up the road has undeniably become that. Swanson can learn vicariously from Freeman’s free agency debacle so he may become the next Chipper or Murph.

Atlanta can afford another star shortstop if Swanson were to walk, but why allow that to happen?
