1. Important under-the-radar MLB trades: Robbie Grossman to the Braves

Remember when we talked about the Braves making additions last year at the trade deadline like Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario and Jorge Soler that helped propel them to their eventual World Series win? Well, they made another move that feels oddly reminiscent of those deals.

While they also bolstered the bullpen by trading for Raisel Iglesias from the Angels, they also landed outfielder Robbie Grossman from the Tigers in a trade that only cost Atlanta minor-leaguer Kris Anglin. And it’s hard not to see how Grossman can help this team.

Grossman was only hitting .205 with a .313 on-base percentage with Detroit this season and he’s not shown the power that led to 23 home runs a year ago with only two to his name this season. However, he’s a versatile good glove in the outfield who, frankly, is due to regress positively to the mean now that he joins Atlanta.

When Adam Duvall went down for the rest of the season with an injury, the Braves became scarily thin in regards to their outfield depth. But Grossman comes in as someone who can be a platoon player and make an impact, especially if he finds his groove at the plate again. And he’s already showing signs, going 2-for-5 with a walk and two doubles in the two games he’s played coming into Sunday.

The Braves are trying to chase down the Mets in the NL East and Grossman feels a lot like the type of under-the-radar trade that Atlanta has mastered over the past year-plus.
