2) Astros roster could use a Jake Meyers upgrade

Jake Meyers is finding himself playing a lot of center field for Houston this year. The results haven’t been so great. The same thing happened with Jose Siri during his time playing the position regularly earlier this season.

The problem Houston faces is how few options they actually have. Center field is a weakness for many teams across the league. The Astros are no exception. If it’s not Meyers, who has minor league options remaining, Houston will be taking a chance on someone else.

The Astros can sacrifice a lot of defense in favor of offense by moving Kyle Tucker to center field and giving Mancini reps in right field. They also have another outfielder, Chas McCormick, who could be a candidate to shift over from left field into center field just for a possible change.

None of these options are all that appealing. The Astros should, however, keep a close eye on the waiver wire, any players released from their current teams, and watch closely at how their own minor league players are performing. September is a time to take some risks with the roster. Be sure to do it by the end of the day on August 31. You’ll want to have him available for the postseason just in case things go even better than expected.
