2) Braves roster won’t have Guillermo Heredia for long

Guillermo Heredia hasn’t produced well for the Braves this season. He has been replaced by Robbie Grossman on the outfield depth chart. His current stint with the Braves is merely to help them have a bench in the absence of several other players dealing with IL stints.

Heredia never should have been someone the Braves relied so heavily upon. A journeyman outfielder who found himself playing a lot of center field for the club last season, he has been demoted to more of a fifth outfielder role when on the MLB roster.

The Braves have needed him at times this year. The long absence of Eddie Rosario this season opened up a roster spot for Heredia to see some limited action behind the starters. However, with Grossman on the team and Heredia showing no signs of offering much offensively, he’s kind of redundant.

Heredia has minor league options left so he won’t have to be designated for assignment. He can get shuttled back to Triple-A and await a recall.

The September expanded rosters could be a time when Heredia does return because of what he can offer defensively. However, he’s very likely to head back to the minors before then. Plus, with the Braves possibly having some other players returning from the IL, there might not be quite as much room with only two extra roster spots.
