San Francisco Giants

The Giants were mentioned as a potential landing spot for Contreras, and for good reason.

Yet, as San Francisco faded after the All-Star Break, their interest in the Cubs catcher waned, as did their standing in the NL Wild Card. In the end, the Giants were not the aggressive buyers many expected them to be.

Catcher is a position of need for the Giants. They dealt with the Cubs last season, acquiring Kris Bryant at the trade deadline, so there is familiarity there. This had all the makings of a blockbuster trade.

Joey Bart has not inspired confidence in the San Francisco front office in life after Buster Posey. Yet, per most reports, the Cubs asking price for Contreras and Happ was sky high. Even as hours and minutes counted down prior to the deadline, Hoyer and Chicago would not come down off their previous asks.

This is why a trade didn’t happy, and the likes of the Giants will be in on Contreras come this winter.
