25) MLB Power Rankings: Kansas City Royals

Being a top 25 team in the MLB Power Rankings is a nice victory for the Kansas City Royals. It might be the only compliment they get this season. All of the negative things said previously about the teams behind them on this list can be added to commentary about the Royals.

A low-budget team with maybe lower expectations heading into the year, Kansas City doesn’t look close to competing in even the weak American League Central. They’re going to need for a lot to go right to get back to where they were only a few seasons ago.

24) MLB Power Rankings: Chicago Cubs

A win over the Reds in the Field of Dreams Game helped push the Chicago Cubs up a little higher in this week’s MLB Power Rankings. Good for them. This season has not been fun.

For better or worse, fans can still go to Wrigley Field to see many of the players they have come to love. Willson Contreras is still there. So is Ian Happ. What exactly is this team’s plan for the future? Maybe some exceptional finishes from a couple of the kids can convince the front office to build bigger in the offseason. Otherwise, prepare for a repeat in 2023.

23) MLB Power Rankings: Los Angeles Angels

All of that excitement the Los Angeles Angels could have given us was ruined by injuries to their stars and overall poorly play. This won’t be a year of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani competing alongside each other for the MVP. Instead, it’s probably the beginning of the end.

The early summer losing streak doomed the Angels. They were never able to recover and seemed to sink further into the American League hole ever since. Better than anyone else, this team represents how important it is to have a full team, not just a couple of really good players.

22) MLB Power Rankings: Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins are one of those low-budget teams that makes bad mistakes when they finally do spend. Free agent signings Jorge Soler and Avisail Garcia look like major busts. Had they selected right with those signings, this might be a much better team.

It’s too late to go back in time and make different decisions. And even if they did have some bats to provide players like Sandy Alcantara with some support, the Marlins would at best be a .500 club. Instead, they’re getting closer to the bottom each week.

21) MLB Power Rankings: Colorado Rockies

Any general manager who helps the Colorado Rockies win a championship should get into the Hall of Fame the next day. We’re witnessing their biggest problem yet again in 2022. They just never get good enough pitching.

It also hasn’t helped that their big free agent signing, Kris Bryant, is hurt yet again. While other franchises have been stuck in baseball purgatory because of their lower budgets, the Rockies seem to sign their own fate. They’ve torn themselves down well while failing to build themselves back up.
