Braves fans will be sick listening to Chipper Jones’ thoughts on the Mets

Atlanta Braves fans are going to hate what Chipper Jones had to say about the New York Mets.

Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones may have owned the New York Mets during his illustrious prime, but he is not afraid to call it like he sees it.

In the decade since retiring, Jones has not only been a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but has resurfaced as a pretty good baseball analyst, as well as an auxiliary hitting coach for the only team he ever played for. Never afraid to speak his mind, Jones said that right now, the best team in baseball is the Mets. He says his Braves have to do a better job of taking care of business in divisional play.

Here is what Jones said over the airwaves to the liking of die-hard Mets fans everywhere.

"“Listen. The New York Mets are a really, really good ballclub. And I feel right now, the two best teams in Major League Baseball are the New York Mets and the Houston Astros. They’re certainly playing like it at this point. The Braves went on that streak where they won 14 straight, but the fact of the matter is, they haven’t particularly well inside of the division. The New York Mets have basically dominated the division.”"

Atlanta took Game 1 of its four-game series vs. New York on Monday night but dropped four-of-five last week during the Braves’ previous series in Queens.

Chipper Jones sees the New York Mets as one of the two best teams in baseball

If you are a Braves fan, it is simple, really. Atlanta just needs to beat the Mets with greater regularity and Jones will not be put in as awkward of a spot. Should you root for New York, this has to be music to your ears. Few players, if any, were as loathed by Mets fans over the years than Jones. Despite naming his son after your former stadium, there was a respect element there.

What this really comes down to is good pitching almost always beats great hitting in the postseason. Atlanta may have bigger bats than New York does, but the Mets have two future Hall of Famers in their rotation in Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, as well as one of the most dominant bullpens in all of baseball. Although the gap between the teams is not vast, the Mets are in front.

Ultimately, there are six more games remaining between these bitter NL East rivals. Fortunately for Atlanta, the entire remaining half-dozen will all be played at Truist Park. Barring anything shocking, both clubs will be two of the better teams in the postseason from the Senior Circuit. However, only one can win the division crown and lock up a crucial first-round bye to the NLDS.

It may have killed Jones to say these things, but good for him removing biases to be an analyst.
