After nine months away, Kenny Omega has made his grand return to AEW.
On the Aug. 17 episode of Dynamite, the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and a mystery partner faced off against La Faccion Ingobernable (Andrade El Idolo, Rush, and Dragon Lee) in the first round of the AEW World Trios Championship tournament. After much anticipation, Omega’s music hit, and fans lost their minds in the arena.

As for the result of the match, Omega picked up the win after he hit the One Winged Angel on Dragon Lee. They will now face the winners of the first-round matchup between Death Triangle (Pac, Penta Oscuro, Rey Fenix) and United Empire (Will Ospreay, Mark Davis, Kyle Fletcher).
Omega had not competed in an AEW ring since the Full Gear 2021 pay-per-view last November. In the main event, Omega lost his AEW World Championship to “Hangman” Adam Page, ending his reign at 346 days. On the following episode of Dynamite, Omega announced that he would be stepping away.
Since his last appearance, Omega had undergone multiple surgeries to repair injuries he was working through. Those procedures reportedly included arthroscopic knee surgery and hernia surgery.
As for the Young Bucks, they were part of the Undisputed Elite faction alongside Adam Cole and reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish). On the Aug. 3 episode of Dynamite, Cole revealed that he is not cleared to compete. Almost in that same breath, Cole said that the Young Bucks would not be physically able to participate in the tournament. That led to Cole, O’Reilly and Fish attacking the Young Bucks, where they were saved by “Hangman” Page.
After nearly a year away, Omega is back in AEW.
