1. Vikings surprise cuts: Kelln Mond, QB

Perhaps the most shocking of moves the Vikings could make is moving on from Kellen Mond.

Last year, the team selected Mond out of Texas A&M in the third round. He did not receive any playing time, not even a start when Kirk Cousins was sidelined with COVID-19 in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers.

This summer, Mond has had an up-and-down preseason. Against the Raiders, he completed 9-of-14 passes for 119 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The following game against the San Francisco 49ers was not a good one for Mond, as he completed 50-percent of his passes for 82 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Then, this week, the Vikings decided to add to their quarterback room, acquiring Nick Mullens in a trade with the Raiders. Mond told the media that he was not told what the Mullens trade means for the team.

In al likelihood, Mannion may be the quarterback that ends up being shown the door. But considering that Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell did not make the decision to draft them (since they were not in Minnesota in 2021), there is the chance that they opt to move on from Mond to bring in their own developmental signal caller in the 2023 draft.
