Cowboys options for replacing Tyron Smith: Free agent Eric Fisher
The best left tackle left on the open market is Eric Fisher. The nine-year veteran and long time Kansas City Chief spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts, achieving a 68.2 grade from Pro Football Focus.
Fisher has been a free agent since April, with Colts General Manager Chris Ballard giving him a co-sign on the way out, saying he’s, “got a lot of good football left in him,” according to FOX59.
As for why Fisher is still a free agent, it’s not entirely clear, as other teams like the Steelers could use his services as well. There was interest in returning to Indy from both sides, but they could not agree with Indy on terms. Fisher might be waiting for the right challenge at this point in his career, and protecting a quarterback in need like Prescott could fit his mental model of what the next chapter in his career looks like.
Fisher is a Super Bowl Champion and a two-time Pro Bowl tackle, achieving the All-Star honors as recently as 2020. Though he’s had a long career, he’s a great option and should be the top priority for the Cowboys rather than a band-aid solution or a trade.
