Reasonable expectations for MLB top-5 prospect Corbin Carroll after call-up.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been in the midst of a reset the last few years while waiting for their revamped minor league system to start producing major league talent after GM Mike Hazen took over in 2017. The team bottomed out in 2021 tying the Baltimore Orioles for the worst record in the MLB. This culminated in the second overall pick that nabbed Druw Jones. However, this season has been far different for the Diamondbacks. While last year was awful, this one has been fun, exciting, and full of youth despite what the record says. The Dbacks youth movement is fully underway leading to many career years for the established players. Now, the most exciting part of the team’s future and youth is set to make his MLB Debut Monday night, Corbin Carroll.

Arizona Diamondbacks: Some Reasonable expectations for MLB top-5 prospect Corbin Carroll after call-up

That’s right, the Arizona Diamondbacks are calling up MLB Pipeline’s No.3 overall prospect Corbin “Barrels” Carroll to the MLB just over 3 years after he was drafted. Carroll is a top-5 prospect, including No.1 for ESPN and the Athletic, and Top-5 for MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. Suffice it to say that he’s seen as a future All-Star caliber player with elite potential. Corbin Carroll was drafted in the 2019 Draft in the First round, 16th overall out of high school. He’s only 23 and from Seattle Washington.

Corbin reached Single-A after he got drafted in 2019 and displayed a terrific ability to hit the ball. He was impressed with his swing and patience at the plate. Unfortunately, 2020 robbed his year of development or Carroll would’ve been in the MLB already. In 2021, he only played 7 games before wrecking his shoulder and hitting a home run. That cost him the entire season. Despite that, Carroll still made it to the MLB in only 142 games.

Over his MiLB career, he has hit .310/.426/.588 with 32 doubles, 17 triples, 28 home runs, 87 RBI, 102 walks, 155 strikeouts, and 52 stolen bases. He has an amazing combination of speed, fielding, and hitting. He’s a true 5-tool player despite his smaller stature at only 5’10 and 170 pounds.

Carroll has all the attributes that any coach could want in a player. As he gets bigger in the MLB, expect more power. Right now, I project him to have the potential to be a 20/30 player. He has plus doubles power, the speed to steal many bases, and an ability to hit .300 in a season. Due to the Dbacks calling him up now, he will still maintain his rookie eligibility for 2023. This allows him to have a chance at winning the Rookie of the Year award which would net the Diamondbacks another draft pick in the 2024 Draft.

Overall, Corbin Carroll is an advanced young player with a mature approach that has helped him exceed all expectations. The 22-year-old has now climbed three levels in one season to make his MLB debut. In 33 games at Reno, he hit .287/.408/.535 with 11 doubles, 7 home runs, 22 RBI, 24 walks, and 36 strikeouts with 11 stolen bases. It was clear he had nothing left to truly play. One thing is for sure, Corbin Carroll is an elite young prospect who has a chance to be one of the next great young stars in the MLB.
