Chiefs greatest moments No. 3: Hiring Andy Reid

The 2012 season in Kansas City was far and away the worst in Chiefs history. The team won two games, fans paid to have banners flown over the stadium during games calling for GM Scott Pioli to be fired and QB Matt Cassel to be benched, and, of course, the Javon Belcher incident took place. In January of 2013, Clark Hunt made his greatest impact on Chiefs history and righted the ship by hiring head coach Andy Reid. When Reid signed with the Chiefs, it marked the official return of the glory days in Kansas City.

Aside from their two Super Bowl victories and their legendary founder, the most highly regarded aspect of the Chiefs history is the Hall of Fame coaches that have made their name in Kansas City. However, among the likes of Hank Stram, Marv Levy, Marty Schottenheimer and Dick Vermeil, it is Andy Reid who has brought more success to the organization than anyone else.

Big Red is on track to surpass Stram as the winningest coach in Chiefs history at some point in the 2023 season and has already had more playoff success than any of his predecessors.

Reid has averaged 11.5 wins per season since arriving in Kansas City in 2013, he has brought the Lamar Hunt trophy home two times and ended a 50-year Super Bowl drought in 2020. Already an all-time Chiefs legend, Andy Reid’s story is far from over.
