2. The Braves already have a replacement for Kenley Jansen

Kenley Jansen was never meant to spend more than this season with the Braves. It’s looking like at this point of his career he is better used as a setup man than an actual closer. He hasn’t been terrible in the role. When the playoffs arrive, at least they’ll have someone finishing games with experience.

Jansen has had some atypical health scares which could affect his free agent stock. He is also in his mid-30s now and proving that dusk is about to set on his career.

More importantly for the Braves, they seem to already have his replacement. Raisel Iglesias joined the club at the trade deadline. Since leaving the Los Angeles Angels and joining Atlanta, he has been terrific. Iglesias is also signed for multiple seasons and at a high rate of $16 million for the next three years after the current campaign.

On the free agent market, Jansen could probably convince someone to give him a shot to close games. A contender with the same idea as the Braves had this year could consider it. There are also those clubs with a wide opening and only a fraction of what he’s making this year that could be a destination as well.

Jansen’s best days are through and he’ll hope to win a World Series this year before the big question comes up: where to after Atlanta?
