The Kansas City Chiefs prioritized adding to their secondary this offseason, most notably by signing former Houston Texans safety Justin Reid and drafting Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie in the first-round. Shortly after the NFL Draft, the team pulled off a trade with the Texans for cornerback Lonnie Johnson Jr. for a conditional 2024 seventh-round draft pick.

Johnson’s stint with the Chiefs was not very long. Well, three months to be exact. He participated in training camp and in the team’s preseason debut against the Chicago Bears, where he logged three solo tackles.

On Aug. 15, the Chiefs waived Johnson. He did not clear waivers, as he was claimed by the Tennessee Titans. Johnson has made an impact on the Titans in his short time with the team, including a forced fumble against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Johnson officially made the Titans’ 53-man roster. If he thrives in Tennessee throughout the season, Chiefs fans will question why the team waived him in the first place.
