College football power rankings: Top 15 wide receivers for the 2022 season
By John Buhler
A.T. Perry will remain Wake Forest’s go-to guy, with or without Sam Hartman
Let’s be real. Had we not gotten some concerning non-football injury health news out of Wake Forest star quarterback Sam Hartman, his top wide receiver A.T. Perry would be way higher than 10th on this best receivers list. While the Wake Forest offense should still be electrifying under Dave Clawson’s watch, 2022 is an opportunity for Perry to go ahead and just shine on anyway.
Admittedly, it is hard to forecast what Wake Forest will be with Hartman out indefinitely. When healthy, this team had the looks of a top-15 level team again. In the meantime, look for Perry to build off his breakthrough season with the Demon Deacons, one where he set a school record for most touchdown catches in a campaign. Quarterback issues aside, he is the No. 1 wide receiver.
The ACC is loaded at quarterback and wide receiver talent this year, and Perry will not be denied.
With Dillon Gabriel throwing him the ball, Marvin Mims could be extraordinary
Although Oklahoma did lose plenty of players this offseason in the transfer portal, mostly to USC, they did pick up a serious dark horse contender for the Heisman Trophy in former UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel. This man is on a mission and will inherit one of the better pass-catchers in the entire Big 12 in Marvin Mims. Look for him to build off his second-team all-conference campaign.
Oklahoma has regularly won the Big 12 throughout the College Football Playoff era. While it remains to be seen if they will prove victorious in Arlington should they even get there, the Gabriel-to-Mims connection has the potential to get the Sooners over the top and back into the playoff under first-time head coach Brent Venables. Jeff Lebby will get looks at big jobs after this.
Since there is no clear favorite to come out of the Big 12, you might as well put your money on OU.
