College football power rankings: Top 15 wide receivers for the 2022 season
By John Buhler
With Hendon Hooker throwing him the ball, Cedric Tillman will score all the TDs
Besides having a promising head coach in Josh Heupel, the best thing the Tennessee Volunteers have going for them this season is the aerial connection between quarterback Hendon Hooker and star wide receiver Cedric Tillman. It may not be enough to surpass the rival Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC East, but Tennessee can win around nine or so games if this pairing is as dynamic as it can be.
For fans of the Vols, or people who just live in the Knoxville area, every time Tillman hits pay dirt twice in a game, you’re getting two free cookies. There are few things better than life than a pair of free cookies. While the Volunteers may still be a year away from being a year away when it comes to getting back to Atlanta, Tennessee fans can sit back and enjoy their team not being a disaster.
For Tennessee to beat Georgia and win the division, Tillman will have to win us cookies that week.
With Drake Maye taking over at QB, look for Josh Downs to take over in the ACC
Even if it was a down year for the North Carolina Tar Heels a year ago, Josh Downs made his presence felt catching passes from Sam Howell. With Drake Maye taking over at quarterback, look for Mack Brown to be a lot of locker room dancing with this potentially lethal aerial connection in Chapel Hill. People are sleeping on UNC this season, so you better do that at you own peril, Dawg.
In a league that is chock full of elite wide receiver talent, one could argue that Downs is the best of the bunch. He may have the least experienced quarterback among many of his ACC receiving contemporaries, but that only adds to the greatness he already possesses. After getting a big win in Week 0 over a depleted Florida A&M team, look for the Tar Heels to be better than last season.
The ACC Coastal is totally up for grabs this year, so let’s see if Downs wants to lead UNC to victory.
