2. Saints sweep rival Buccaneers for fourth straight year

It’s certainly not unusual to see a team in the NFL have another rival’s number. That has certainly been the case the past three seasons when it comes to the New Orleans Saints’ domination of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team from the Crescent City wound up sweeping Bruce Arians’ club for three consecutive years dating back to 2019.

And in case you are wondering, this was a total team effort from the Saints and not just a lot of big outings from Drew Brees. There was Teddy Bridgewater in 2019 and both Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill a season ago.

Of course, there was a seventh meeting between the clubs that had the most meaning. In 2020, the wild card and eventual Super Bowl champion Buccaneers rallied in the Superdome for a 30-20 victory in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.

Of course, Sean Payton is no longer the head coach of the Saints and Dennis Allen is in charge of the club. But during this stretch, it has been the New Orleans’ defense that has been the difference. Who could forget the last two meetings in Tampa, both prime-time wins by the Saints in which they held Tom Brady and company without a touchdown in both contests?

It’s been a rough offseason for the Buccaneers’ offensive line while New Orleans’ defensive front remains a team strength. We will find out later this month as Todd Bowles’ club heads to the Superdome in Week 2.
