Ahead of the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller repped a franchise legend on his shirt.

The 2022 NFL season has finally arrived, and the first game of the season may very well be the Super Bowl 57 matchup. The defending champion Los Angeles Rams host the Buffalo Bills, who have received plenty of love as favorites to win it all this year. On the Bills is Von Miller, who joined the Rams at the trade deadline last year and helped win Super Bowl 56.

Ahead of his very first game with the Bills, Miller wore a shirt that featured franchise legend and defensive end Bruce Smith.

Smith was the former first-overall pick by the Bills in the 1985 draft out of Virginia Tech, and he became not just a franchise legend, but a future Pro Football Hall of Famer.

During his 15 seasons with Buffalo, Smith went to the Pro Bowl 11 times and was named an All-Pro eight times. Overall, Smith recorded 1,054 combined tackles, 171 sacks, 35 forced fumbles, and 14 fumble recoveries. He led the NFL in forced fumbles twice (5 in 1994 and 5 in 1996).

This offseason, Miller hit free agency, and after some interest in the Dallas Cowboys, he decided to sign a six-year, $120 million contract with the Bills.

Last year between the Rams and Denver Broncos, Miller recorded 50 combined tackles, 17 quarterback hits, 9.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 15 regular season games. In the playoffs with Los Angeles, Miller recorded 14 combined tackles (six for loss), six quarterback hits, and four sacks.

Miller and the Bills have the chance to make a statement that they are ready to take the crown away from the Rams at season’s end.
