4. Top Fantasy Football Pickups For Week 2 – Detroit Lions RB Jamaal Williams

Fantasy owners have been waiting a long time for D’Andre Swift to have his breakout season. There was a reasonable hope that this season would see Swift finally become the true bell-cow of the Lions’ offense but head coach Dan Campbell continues to insist on splitting the workload with Jamaal Williams.

The veteran nearly split the rushing workload with Swift, receiving 11 carries compared to 15 for Swift. While it is true that Swift was far more efficient with his carries, rushing for 144 yards while Williams just got 28, the red zone opportunities were heavily in favor of Williams.

Williams found paydirt twice against the Eagles as Detroit clearly values his steady hands near the goal line. If the Lions are committed to giving Williams significant goal-line work this season, that makes him an important fantasy asset for fantasy owners who embraced the ZeroRB strategy during draft season.

The word hasn’t gotten out on Williams yet as he is rostered in just over 47 percent of Yahoo leagues. Williams is in a position of trust with the Lions’ coaching staff and he could be a viable RB1 candidate if Swift ever goes down with an injury.
