Cubs and 3 other threats to sign Trea Turner away from the Dodgers

3) The Cubs can steal Carlos Correa from the Twins and allow them to pursue Trea Turner
The Minnesota Twins showed they are ready and interested to compete with just about every transaction they’ve made over the last year or so. They had an active offseason and an even busier couple of days around the MLB trade deadline. Unfortunately, they’re in the midst of a massive collapse and could miss the postseason altogether.
How do they rectify this? A couple of major changes is one way to accomplish it. More importantly, for a ball club in a division that is as open as this one, they need to push forward.
The Twins surprised the baseball world in the offseason when they were able to convince free agent Carlos Correa to sign with them. While it’s likely only a one-year offer because of his opt-out after the 2022 season, it showed they are ready to step up and pay big free agents.
If Correa leaves, possibly even for the Cubs, it leaves a massive hole in the lineup. Turner could fill it and maybe be even more efficient.
Minnesota could certainly use a little more speed in their lineup. Nobody on the roster has reached 10 this year. In fact, only Nick Gordon has attempted to swipe that many bases. Stolen bases might not be everything but with a starting lineup that includes several guys hitting under .250, the tools Turner can bring to them should get Minnesota fans eager to see him as the replacement.
Other teams that could lose a top shortstop in free agency include the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox. Each already has a potential replacement on the roster. This is good news for the Twins who should remain aggressive even if this year ends in a pool of tears.
