Braves can’t catch a break with Ozzie Albies injured again
One day after making his return after a long injury absence, Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a potentially season-ending injury.
Ozzie Albies hadn’t played since June 13 when he broke a bone in his foot when he made his return for the Braves on Friday.
His time back in the lineup didn’t last 24 hours.
Albies injured his hand while sliding into second base against the Phillies. It was an innocuous play but ultimately a costly one as he had to leave the game.
The team later announced he suffered a broken pinky.

Here’s the play that injured Albies:
Someone needs to get Albies some calcium because his bones are apparently more brittle than a dry restaurant breadstick.
That injury is likely to keep the second baseman out for at least the rest of the regular season. He’d need Atlanta to go deep into the playoffs to have a chance of playing again this year.
Vaughn Grissom was once again called on to replace Albies at second base to start the fifth inning. It looks likely Grissom will have to continue to play a big role for the Braves during the most critical point of this season.
Atlanta is one game behind the Mets in the NL East. They’ll battle the Phillies in another series after this one sandwiched between series with the Nationals. Then the penultimate series of the regular season will have the Braves facing off with New York, likely for the division title.
Having Albies back and in form by then would have been a big advantage. Instead, Atlanta will have to manage without him again.
