Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 3: No. 16-15

16. Texas A&M Aggies

Everyone was ready to pile on Texas A&M after they were upset by Appalachian State and with No. 13-ranked Miami coming to town. But Jimbo Fisher finally made a switch from believing in Haynes King to start Max Johnson at quarterback and, while the Aggies offense was a far cry from great or explosive, it was a change that made all the difference in the world in the big matchup.

Johnson played like a cool customer who wasn’t going to make a back-breaking mistake and it showed throughout the game. More importantly, that style of play allowed the biggest strength of the Aggies, the defense, to show its talent and ability against a potent Hurricanes offense.

It was far from perfect and the Aggies definitely tried to give it away, but they got the crucial statement win in the end, which is what counts in this instance.

15. Oregon Ducks

People were wondering how Oregon could get pasted on the Beltline in Atlanta by Georgia and then go on to beat an FCS team and that would allow them to jump back inside the Top 25. Well, it turns out that the voters absolutely got that right with what the Ducks showed on Saturday as they completely dominated BYU throughout the game.

In all honesty, we probably wrote off Dan Lanning’s team way too quickly because we didn’t realize just how good his former team is. With that said, we know what the Bo Nix experience looks like from his time at Auburn, so this could be a bit of a roller-coaster for the Ducks this year. After Week 3, however, they are on a climb to the top again.
