College football rankings 2022: Projected Week 4 AP Top 25 after Georgia, Ohio State roll, Texas A&M downs Miami
Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 3: No. 14-13
14. Penn State Nittany Lions
So yeah, it’s time that we take Penn State seriously. This isn’t to say that Auburn is a good team because, let’s face it, this felt like the beginning of a steep downhill climb for the Tigers as they now head into SEC play. But there were similar questions about the Nittany Lions coming into Saturday and we’re now seeing a team that laid the wood to an SEC opponent in unfriendly confines.
Nick Singleton was the star of the game with an electric performance that resulted in 10 carries for 124 yards and two touchdowns but Sean Clifford was reliable if not unspectacular and the defense was an absolute boa constrictor in the game. Can they challenge the likes of Michigan and Ohio State? I’m not there just yet, but Penn State is making it clear they are bouncing back after a couple of down seasons.
13. Baylor Bears
Even if it was against Texas State, a team that just can’t match a Power 5 team in terms of talent as they struggle against many Group of Five teams, the fact of the matter is that you want to see good teams respond to a tough loss like the one Baylor suffered in overtime against BYU last week with gumption and heart. And that’s what Dave Aranda’s team displayed on Saturday.
Behind a monster 156-yard, three-touchdown game from freshman running back Richard Reese, Baylor controlled every aspect of the 42-7 win in a dominant fashion. Sure, BYU lost and that might make the Bears look a bit worse, but I’m willing to believe in this team and what they have to offer as they have yet to deliver a bad overall showing through three games.
