College football rankings 2022: Projected Week 4 AP Top 25 after Georgia, Ohio State roll, Texas A&M downs Miami
Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 3: No. 12-11
12. Utah Utes
I honestly have no idea what to make of Utah. They were extremely competitive and, in the minds of some, should have won against Florida in the opener. Then the Utes looked absolutely dominant in their victory in Week 2 over Southern Utah. But this week, the team came out and looked pretty hapless early on offense while the defense suffocated San Diego State.
We’re moving them up because the teams in front of them in the rankings lost but it’s hard to feel completely great about that when you get down to it. Point blank, the Utes are more of a mystery than anything after three weeks and we’ll have to see what kind of performances they put forth once they start squaring off with the better teams in the Pac-12 moving forward.
11. Tennessee Volunteers
Let’s be clear about this: Tennessee isn’t moving up four spots in the rankings because they beat up on Akron. However, the Vols did exactly what an extremely good team should do in that situation Saturday as they left absolutely zero doubt about which was the better team on the field in Knoxville. When you pair that with last week’s win over Pitt, you start to see a pretty impressive team.
Truth be told, the Volunteers are climbing up to No. 11 largely due to circumstances and we’ll see how they fare as they start to get into the heart of the SEC schedule, starting next week against Florida. With that said, they’ve passed some good tests and handled business against cupcakes. Tennessee is as close to being back with Josh Heupel leading the way as they’ve been in quite some time.
