Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 3: No. 10-9

10. Arkansas Razorbacks

I fully understand why someone might be saying that Arkansas deserves to be dropped in the rankings after the Razorbacks were trailing by 10 points against Missouri State entering the fourth quarter. That’s fair and that’s a spot that Sam Pittman’s team should’ve never been in as a Top 10 team. But context is everything and it matters a great deal in this instance.

For one, this was the return of Bobby Petrino to Fayetteville, an emotional night for every fan in the building and the program as a whole. Furthermore, the Hogs also got the win when the teams immediately behind them in the latest AP Top 25 were not able to do the same. Thus, it feels right to reward a 38-27 win that wasn’t pretty but, with all things considered, got the job done when it needed to be.

9. Kentucky Wildcats

A game that was never expected to be all that close against Mark Stoops’ hometown team, Youngstown State, gave us the full spectrum of both why this Kentucky team can be dangerous and why they might have an actual problem when they face off against the best teams in the SEC moving forward.

On one hand, you have to appreciate a convincing 31-0 victory in which quarterback Will Levis threw for 377 yards with three total touchdowns while Kavosiey Smoke rushed for 66 yards and another score. On the other, Levis had two interceptions on the day and the offense also lost a fumble as well.

Just watching, it feels like Kentucky has a defined ceiling that will be made evident against the likes of Georgia, but will still be flirting with 10 wins when it’s all said and done.
