Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 3: No. 8-7

8. Oklahoma State Cowboys

There’s a good chance that the Pokes got a good mulleted butt-chewing from Mike Gundy on Saturday night for letting Arkansas Pine-Bluff score at all in Stillwater. All told, though, the Cowboys can probably live with allowing the one touchdown as they absolutely dominated every other second of the action in a completely one-sided affair, a result that was to be expected.

Spencer Sanders made quick work of UAPB as he went 13-of-16 for four touchdowns with, most importantly, no turnovers before making his ceremonious exit from the game. But really, this was all a tune-up to next week as Oklahoma State will truly be tested as they head to Waco for a Big 12 Championship Game rematch from last year against a Baylor team that looks quite formidable yet again.

7. USC Trojans

For as good as Caleb Williams has predictably looked at the helm of the USC offense under Lincoln Riley – after all, we saw it in Norman for the second half of last season – it’s safe to say that the Trojans defense had not been tested prior to Week 3. That was about to change against Jake Haener and the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Granted, the Fresno defense never figured to offer much resistance to the men of Troy in this game, but it was always going to be a test of the USC defense to see if they would be the Achilles heel for this team, so to speak. The tests will only grow more difficult for USC from here but after wins over Rice and a pretty pedestrian Stanford team, the matchup against the Bulldogs was what the doctor ordered for the Trojans.
