3. Top Fantasy Football Pickups For Week 3 – Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert

Any team running a variation of the Shanahan offense tends to have a committee in the backfield. The Miami Dolphins are no exception as former 49ers’ offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel has brought his zone-running principles to South Beach, which includes a solid trio of running backs.

While most assumed that free-agent import Chase Edmonds would lead the committee, McDaniel threw a curveball in Week 3 by having former 49er Raheem Mostert play most of the snaps. Mostert even played a heavy percentage of passing downs against the Baltimore Ravens, which is noteworthy since Edmonds is a much better pass-catcher than Mostert.

While it is tough to take a one-week sample size as gospel in fantasy, it is noteworthy here since Mostert has more scheme familiarity and could have earned the trust of the coaching staff. Mostert did well with his opportunities in Week 2, rushing 11 times for 51 yards against a stout Baltimore defense while adding three receptions for 28 yards for good measure.

Edmonds will likely claw back some of his workload next week but Mostert should pop on the radar for fantasy owners who have a need at running back. Mostert is rostered in 43 percent of Yahoo leagues and could be a nice flex option against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3.
