WWE Survivor Series has been regrettably forgettable in recent years but Triple H has announced an exciting new change that should reignite the flagship event.

Once upon a time in pro wrestling, the WWE had its four flagship events with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam and Survivor Series. But over recent years, the last in that group has lost a lot of its luster and, more importantly, has also lost interest among many fans.

The fact of the matter is that WWE Survivor Series has fallen a bit by the wayside for no other reason than mismanagement from creative forces behind the scenes. Brand warfare being highlighted essentially once per calendar year feels contrived and meaningless, something that fans have been aware of.

As Paul “Triple H” Levesque has taken over in the wake of Vince McMahon’s resignation, though, there have been a plethora of obvious positive changes coming to the biggest wrestling promotion in the world and now that’s thankfully bleeding into Survivor Series.

WWE Survivor Series introducing WarGames format under Triple H’s watch

Triple H confirmed to The Ringer on Monday that WWE Survivor Series 2022 will be headlined by two separate WarGames matches, one men’s match and one women’s match. The news was later confirmed by WWE.

While that’s exciting in itself, the new Chief Content Officer at WWE confirmed that this change in format to the main events would be “more storyline-driven” than the brand wars of recent years.

It’s certainly not surprising that Triple H would bring about this format to the main brand in WWE after ushering it in as a signature premium event for NXT since 2017. However, it’s a change that was much needed for Survivor Series and one that should bring about a great deal of anticipation for how we will get to the event in November and what the stakes in storyline will actually be.
