2) Reason the Mets will win the World Series: They don’t depend on any single hitter

The Mets starting lineup could use some work. They tried to improve themselves at the trade deadline with some lesser additions. There was no Juan Soto brought in to save the day or even a Trey Mancini to take over as the everyday DH.

Instead, the Mets settled with part-time or role player additions. Since the trade deadline, each of those players has had their ups and downs with guys like Darin Ruf experiencing much more of the latter.

Nevertheless, the Mets have continued to score runs and win games. Buck Showalter has managed them well and put his players in a great position to win games. By using Luis Guillorme regularly early on, he has given the Mets a solution during the absence of Starling Marte: moving starting second baseman Jeff McNeil out to right field and giving Guillorme more regular chances to start.

Yes, Pete Alonso is important to the Mets. Remove him from the lineup and there isn’t much power. Francisco Lindor has also remained a crucial piece to their success even if some people continue to insist he isn’t all that good. They probably haven’t checked his statistics since July of 2021.

Unlike some other playoff teams that are going to rely heavily on their most prolific sluggers to help win them games, the Mets have shown an ability to score a ton of runs in different ways. One night it’s a three-run bomb from Alonso that wins it. Less than 24 hours later, a big day at the plate from Tyler Naquin is what they needed.
