1) Reason why the Mets won’t win the World Series: They haven’t been to the postseason in a while

The postseason drought the Mets organization has been in is something we cannot ignore. Although the roster is very different and they have some experienced champions on the roster, there is a pattern in Major League Baseball. Usually, teams need to at least get to the postseason before they win it all.

Since 2000, only one team has had a postseason drought longer than the one the Mets just ended and gone on to win a championship. It was the 2002 Los Angeles Angels. They hadn’t been to the postseason since 1986—the last time the Mets won a World Series. All other teams to win a World Series since have at least found themselves making the playoffs at least one time within 5 years prior to winning it.

The playoff layoff for the Mets isn’t extensive but it is something to consider. This is the first trip for core members like Alonso and McNeil into the playoffs. Even deGrom who was with the team in 2015 throughout their race to the World Series doesn’t have all that much experience pitching in big games.

New York can definitely go against the norm and win a World Series but first they may need to experience some agony of defeat in the postseason.

If that’s how it ends, all of the reasons they will win the World Series this year will be present again next season with only one difference: there’s no drought.
