2023 NFL mock draft: Atlanta Falcons get their franchise QB at No. 1 overall
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions may struggle through another losing season in 2022, but one thing is for sure, this team plays for head coach Dan Campbell. I believe they are going to be a tough out for any opponent this season, and holding two first-round picks in 2023, they are only going to get better.
With their first of two first-rounders, the Lions attack the secondary, bringing in Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. An NFL legacy, Porter has been a star since stepping onto campus in State College, and those Michigan fans who hate him now will grow to love him.
Geno Smith or Drew Lock? What a terrible problem to have, as Pete Carroll and his coaches try to navigate their 2022 season with either of those two guys under center. Sure, Smith looked great in the opener against Denver, but he struggled in a big way against an NFC West opponent in Week 2, and the Seahawks could be in for a long season.
Looking ahead, a quarterback in the first round may be in their future, and Tyler Van Dyke figures to be one of the first arms off the board next year. He has a lot of the qualities you look for in a franchise guy, and if he is available at No. 14 overall, he could end up being a steal.
