3 NFL quarterbacks who deserve to be benched: Mitch Trubisky

Nothing can feel more frustrating to football fans than seeing some special talent at the skill positions get wasted with inept quarterback play. After three weeks in Pittsburgh, Steelers fans are getting the exact same Trubisky as the one that played his way out of Chicago after the 2020 season.

Trubisky has been a glorified game manager for the Steelers, who have dropped two straight games after stunning the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. Thursday night’s performance against the Cleveland Browns wasn’t particularly good for Trubisky, who completed 20-of-32 passes for just 207 yards in a 29-17 loss.

Pittsburgh isn’t hurting for weapons as Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool and George Pickens form the bones of a strong receiving corps while Pat Freiermuth had an excellent rookie season last year. Trubisky simply isn’t good enough to elevate the offense to where it needs to be in order to keep the Steelers afloat in a competitive AFC North, making now an ideal time to turn to first-round pick Kenny Pickett.

Mike Tomlin has shown remarkable patience with Trubisky, who appears to be in no danger of losing his job at the moment. A bad outing against the New York Jets’ suspect defense last week could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back here as Trubisky is weighing down Pittsburgh’s playoff hopes.
