3) Red Sox free agent Nathan Eovaldi will round out a rotation

Nathan Eovaldi had an interesting 2022 campaign. At times, he looked his best. Other days, he was very hittable. He’ll still be an intriguing free agent whose postseason pedigree makes him a nice option to help round out an already talented rotation. It’s precisely what he should do as he moves on from the Red Sox.

Where could Eovaldi land?

A team that immediately makes sense would be the Philadelphia Phillies. Behind Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola next year, he could be a nice veteran to give them a strong threesome at the top. They are at risk of losing several free agent starting pitchers in the winter, too. The need is there.

Eovaldi could also make a lot of sense for the Texas Rangers. They should be targeting an ace. However, adding Eovaldi as well could help give one of their greatest weaknesses a major boost. The Rangers should be a sneaky team for a lot of free agents this offseason.

Teams that either come up short in the postseason or in the regular season would be a nice match, too. Like Martinez, the Orioles could be a contender to sign Eovaldi for a little more credibility.

However, it’s the Phillies who will view him as a potential missing piece they can sign before Wheeler and Nola reach free agency.
