The New York Mets have already watched their NL East lead disappear but now Dick’s Sporting Goods is doing their best to jinx them as well.

At one point in the regular season, it seemed as if the New York Mets were going to run away with the NL East to capture the division crown. They had a double-digit game lead over the Atlanta Braves and were just cruising in every possible way.

Fast-forward to entering Wednesday’s games, though, and the Mets and Braves were tied atop the division with a three-game series looming between the two rivals for the upcoming weekend. To put it plainly, New York has been watching their lead dwindle little by little and now it’s gone.

And Dick’s Sporting Goods might have delivered the final blow with the jinx of the century.

An eagle-eyed Yankees fan whose Twitter says he’s from Niskayuna, NY was in one of the store’s locations assumedly in New York and noticed an interesting rack of shirts, ones that were celebrating the New York Mets winning the NL East. In the world of bad juju regarding sports, that’s about as bad as it gets.

Now, maybe you’re not the superstitious or even the Michael Scott “little stitious” type.

That’s fine, but you can’t deny that a team that has already watched its lead in the NL East dissipate now having shirts celebrating a victory that hasn’t happen already on the rack creates a bad, bad feeling in the pit of the stomach.

Truth be told, we still have no idea which team will emerge out of the division and will have a lot more answers come Sunday, Oct. 2 when they face off in the series and season finale between the two clubs. But if you are one who believes in curses, bad luck or things of that nature, you might as well go ahead and give Atlanta the East.
