While the Atlanta Braves have plenty to be thankful for at the moment — in part skipping the Wild Card series and getting a weekend off — serious decisions lie ahead.

The Braves defeated the Mets in a three-game series about a week ago today, thus breaking the close race in the NL East and allowing themselves a bye to the NLDS.

The added playoff teams in the Wild Card series makes a postseason run all the more improbable, especially for teams which do not receive the automatic berth into the second round. Atlanta, thankfully, does not have that problem. But like most teams, the Braves are dealing with significant injuries, and must decide who makes the NLDS roster in the coming days.

Braves who won’t make NLDS roster: Ozzie Albies

This has nothing to do with Albies’ ability, but when we last looked, the Braves starting second baseman was still dealing with a finger injury he suffered three weeks ago. Albies is recovering from said injury, and could return somewhere down the line — but that time will not be the NLDS, especially with how Vaughn Grissom is playing.

Albies received a new cast on Sept. 30, which indicates some progress — though not enough to start him for Game 1 of the NLDS.

“He got a new one the other day, for another week,” Snitker said of Albies’ cast. “Don’t know if we’ll know anything until he actually gets out of it and where it’s at. I know they X-rayed it, and everything looked good.”
