Cardinals should move on from free agent Corey Dickerson

The Cardinals got a good deal on an important role player in Dickerson for the 2022 season. He signed to be a designated hitter, he ultimately did that as well as helping out in the corner outfield spots as the team dealt with an injury-plagued season for Tyler O’Neill.

Dickerson, a lefty,  hit .267/.300/.399 with an OPS of .698. He had six home runs and 36 RBI.

The Cardinals hope to have O’Neill back, as well as Dylan Carlson and Lars Nootbaar. The team will likely seek a veteran outfielder with some power and elite defense. It would be interesting to see if they take a gamble on bringing up the organization’s top prospect, Jordan Walker, to fill the designated hitter and outfielder role Dickerson had.

The Cardinals got outstanding contributions from Dickerson but will ultimately move on from him as he looks to parlay his experience with the Cardinals into a better situation for himself.

Dickerson would be an ideal target for a team looking for a veteran option off the bench to help with hitting and outfield duties. The Texas Rangers or Baltimore Orioles could be landing spots.
